Day 2: St. Louis to Omaha

Greetings from Council Bluff, about a mile from downtown Omaha.

Megan and I started the day in St. Louis with a 9:10a ride up the Arch.  It was great to be the first group up because it was much less crowded and we had a little room to move.  After enjoying the view, we headed down in search of coffee and a bagel.  We were intrigued by the St. Louis Bread Company and were baffled by the Panera Bread logo and yet St. Louis Bread Company name.  It seemed to be a thing.  But they had coffee and bagels so we got them and got on our way heading toward Kansas City and some proper BBQ.

A brief stop in Ozarkland which billed itself as a "road trip must."  I'm not sure I'd agree but it was fun to see the hillbilly weather meter and various shot glasses and snow globes.  All that said, they did have fudge which means we got fudge.  It is good!

From there, we were off to Kansas City.  Our internet search sent us to Slaps where we gorged on brisket and rips and burnt ends and pulled pork.  Sides of beans and cheesey corn, hush puppies and some weird baked potato casserole (the only thing I wouldn't recommend) left us stuffed and ready to head toward Omaha.  A truly beautiful drive but really trippy to see fields of water that we realized were flooded farms.  In one spot, we could see a stop sign poking up from the water. On the flip side, we've been seeing for the past 300+ miles files of dry corn just sitting there.  I was trying to figure out if that was making for animal feed but Megan suggested it could be a result of the tariffs.  Either way, there are a lot of un-reeped fields and dry corn for miles.

We arrived at our Days Inn in Council Bluffs and after a few minutes of unpacking we headed into downtown Omaha (about a mile from where we're staying) to get a nice glass of wine in a cool wine bar called Mercury, just across the street from the Orphium Theater where Hamilton is playing.

Calling it quits early so we can get up and head to the Lewis and Clark visitor center along the river and then head out to Rapid City, SD by way of Sioux City where I can show Meg my old home away from home.  The plan is to hang there for an extra day and explore the Badlands, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse and depending on how we're doing, Wall Drug. The big question is ... The Corn Palace or not?  I truly don't know.

And that was our day.
